Diversity and Inclusion

In Dr. Martinez laboratory, the majority of the students that he has mentored are first-generation in college and come from disadvantaged backgrounds, thus, access to education and research opportunities will enhance their chances to have social mobility. Dr. Martinez is excited for the opportunity to train and prepare capable undergraduate and graduate students (≥97% of my students have pursued a biomedical career in diverse sectors) as well as post-doctoral fellows, from all backgrounds including under-represented minorities (<5% of academic positions) and women (<30% of NIH funded investigators) who can successfully pursue careers in the biomedical sciences and medicine. His experience as an independent investigator and activism in diversity issues in the STEM fields will greatly enhance each student’s professional growth, training, leadership skills, and competitiveness to reach their individual set goals and full potential.

Post-doctoral scholars

Dr. Martinez welcomes postdoctoral researchers interested in solving important questions on microbial pathogenesis and immunology.  He is particularly interested in independent and motivated individuals that visualize a career as a scientist as a life style.
